Collectible Weatherby Ammo???
I came across an old box of Weatherby Ammo at a gun show recently that I am having second thoughts about shooting. I gave $20 for it, and it is packaged in an old cardboard box that has a Lions head on the left side, and it has the old Weatherby address in SouthGate California. The box is about 80%, it has one spot that shows some wear. It is loaded with a 150gr spitzer. Ammo does say it is made in Sweden. I hate to go shoot up this ammo if it is desirable to collectors, personally I am not much for collecting, I only buy stuff I am going to shoot and hunt with. If this box is something a collector would be interested in, any thoughts on what an asking price should be?
Just thought it might be worth looking into before I shoot this stuff up at the range!

It's probably for the 300 Wby Mag. If cartridges are ok, box not torn, marked, etc., then $20 was a low price. It's cheaper than you'll buy newer ammo for, but if you shoot it, for some strange reason, it will be worth less than what you paid.

First off, are you sure the image is a *lion*?? The early medium bore Wthby ammo typically has a tiger image. If it is a lion, then I definitely would not shoot the stuff. A scan / pic of the box would be of great help in advising of value, as condition is 50% of the issue. Please confirm the image and I will do some research on the value. 0 -

Go ahead and shoot it. In that condition, you'd get $40 tops and you'd have to work to get that much.
In nice mint condition, these boxes will bring some good money depending on the caliber. But with the huge scuff on the front of one of the most common calibers, this specimen really is not in the sort of condition which excites a collector nor so scarce that the condition would be overlooked.0 -

the WEATHERBY "animal" boxes are very collectable. there were different animals depicted dependind on the cartridge that came in the box. we sold a box picturing a "FOX" here on GB a few months ago. it went for over $40.00, and the box only contained the once fired cases. whenever we put one up for auction, it gets bids right away. best regards, mike.
