    Cabela's has two 45/70 blackpowder loads, listed under the "Obsolete Ammunition" , one is 405 gr, the other 500 gr, both lead. $42 dollars per box of 20.

    hey g.d.... i shoot the pmc cowboy rounds out of my trapdoors..seems to be nice stuff and it is not black powder....tom

    since the 45-70 is strictly a side match rifle,any load using a lead bullet will suffice...except maybe the HammerHead types....ranges don't like their steel buckled with every shot ya know.
    I've seen loads starting at 10gr.(max) of Unique for a lowpower load,and umpteen loads using all kinds of powders from there.
    I understand some ranges hold Cowboy silhouette matches,and allow jacketed ammo on those ranges.That is their call of course.
    Yeehaw,lets' go ring some steel.
