    Hello grizzclaw,
Yes, your local gunsmith is correct.
You do not need an FFL to send your gun back to the factory.
When they finish with the repairs, they will ship it back to
you without the FFl as well.
    Shipping will be about 25.00.

You shouldn't need an FFL to ship it back to the manufacturer. They should ship it back directly to you as well without any problem.

    *edit*
    ah...beat me to it

I replaced a transfer bar in one of my Rugers several years ago-I don't remember it being very difficult.

$25 is optimistic. More likely $40-50, depending upon weight & where you live. Federal law requires you to declare the contents to the carrier. Nothing on the package can identify it as a firearm, so you don't want the addressee to appear as "Sturm, Ruger & Co."

How do I address it if I can't put Sturm and Ruger? I had the gun out shooting, fired 3 shots, and it wouldn't fire anymore. I don't know why the bar broke. As far as replacing the bar, the smiths around here say that Ruger won't sell just the parts.

    Thanks, Grizztribefans@sssnet.com

I post onthe cas board quite a bit,and broken t.bars are all too common on rugers these days.I hope they are doing something about it besides just fixing 'em and using the same product again and again.
As long as the gun doesn't change ownership ,shipping is not a problem. You might find a problem with your local branch office, they all seem to read the rule book differently..depending on their own views on guns I suspect.

Throckmortons' the alias, cas is the game.

There is no Federal Law that says you can't address it to Sturm, Ruger & Co. That afterall is the name that will be in the mailing address. It is only reccomended that you not have the package marked as containing a firearm and not that it can't be labeled as such.

call Ruger tell them what happen and they most likly will send you the part for free , I've had different things break on my Rugers over the years and they have always replaced the part free of charge . and if they don't replace it I'm sure you can buy the part
