Cobra / Llama pistols?
I have been looking at two firearms manufacturers that look to make quality pistols, Cobra (formerly Republic Arms) and Llama (currently owned by Firestorm). The Cobra model is comparable in size to the Glock single-stack .45 (M36?). The Llama has several models that resemble 1911 clones including a government model, officers model, a Para P-14, and a Para P-10 or P-12, I can't tell. of course looks can be deceiving. Does anyone have a history with either company? Recommendations? Seem to be good values for the money. [?]

I can't comment on the Cobra....never owned or shot one.
I own a Llama Mk.III...a sort of pre-shrunken M1911A1 in .380 ACP and love that little sucker.
However, I've also shot a bunch of the Llama full size 1911 clones over the years, and have found the quality very uneven. Some shot fine, others were jam-o-matics.
The exterior fit and finish is usually pretty good, the interior is often another story. Some were OK, others were often pretty crude.
If you're looking for an inexpensive basic M1911 type pistol, I'd heartily recommend the Argentine Systema Colt, Modelo 1927. These were made under Colt license on Colt machinery, and arsenal refurbished examples run about $300. http://www.cruffler.com/JLD.html0 -
owned a llama many years ago. upon close inspection(of mine at least), it was very rough made. the feed ramp had sharp edges, the corners and points of the weapon were sharp,not smooth. the gun stove-piped with specific shells. it could be a decent gun with a little smith work. another comparable priced pistol with better quality workmanship is the star pistol. 0 -
I owned an older .32 Llama, looked like a tiny 1911. I had no problems with it. I have heard that older Llamas were of, shall we say, poor quality. However, in recent years they seem to have taken an interest in making a decent product. Haven't shot a newer one, so I can't verify this rumor.
