J.Unertl optics Co.
I would like to learn whether the J. Unertl Optics Co. is still in business and, if so, how I may contact the company? I have one of their spoting scopes that I would like inspected and serviced.

John Unertl died in 1960 and his son took over in that year. Last I knew they were still producing a few scopes, mostly for the military, but that may have changed in the last few years. Someone on this board can likely give you address etc. If not, then do a web search on one or more of the search engines. That will at very least get you in contact with collectors who also seel Unertl scopes and certainly one of them can give you the information you need. Good Luck!

a few years ago i had a UNERTL scope factory refurbished. my understanding is that the widow recently sold the concern, and that there is no longer a family involvment. my scope was gone over completly, optics were replaced, and it was cleaned and refinished. the bill was only $48.00, and the work was done by a UNERTL family member. hopefully whatever manufacturing concern owns the rights and inventory still honor the warranties. the last phone number i have is 1(412)776-9700 from 1987, or 1(724)625-3810 from 1999. i do not know if these are still valid, and at the time they had no website. best regards, mike.
