remington 30-30
I'm considering bidding on a Remington Model 8 semi-auto. These were made in the early 1930's. This may seem like a stupid question, but the caliber is marked as 30-30 remington. Is this the same cartridge as the always available 30-30 winchester? Or is it no longer avialable? Thanks, Dennis

The Remington Model 8 Rifle is chambered for the .30 Remington Cartridge, this is NOT the same cartridge as the 30-30 Winchester. Scrounger has the .30 Remington for sale on his site for $27 & change a box of 20, kind of spendy!

Thank you for the reply. The gun for sale is on auction #9875228. The bolt in the photo clearly shows 30-30 REM. . . and not .30 Rem. Could it have been re-chambered?
It seems the .30 rem must use less powder than the 30-30 win since the muzzle energies are less. Was there ever a 30-30 rem?
Thanks again, Dennis0 -
To the best of my knowledge ( I'm not a ammo expert ). There has never been a 30-30 Remington Cartridge. Perhaps Remington marked the bolts 30-30 Remington for marketing purposes?
The 30-30 Winchester is a rimmed cartridge, whereas the .30 Remington is rimless. There is a difference of over .080 in their rim dimensions, because of this. I don't believe there's any way a Model 8 Remington, could be made to function as a semiautomatic with 30-30 Winchester Ammo.0 -
.30-30 Remington was an early designation for the .30 Remington cartridge. .30-30 Winchester will not work in a Remington Model 8 chambered for .30-30 Remington. Remington also called it's .25 Remington cartridge .25-35 Remington for a while. The Stevens 425 "Hi-Power" lever action rifle made 1910-1915 was chambered for the .30 Remington, but they are always seen marked as chambered for ".30-30" and never for .30 Remington. 0 -
Thanks for the great info!

As noted above 30-30Rem is the same as the 30Rem.
Also note that the 30WCF is the same as the 30-30Win.
Picture the poor guy that stopped to get ammo (for his Mod 8) on the way to deer camp "I need a box of 30-30 Remingtons" and found that what he had was a box of Remington brand 30-30Win when he got there.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
Also, you can reload .30 Rem. with 30/30 Win reloading dies .My Lyman Handloading manual shows both as being the same load. You will need a different shell holder.
