Best .22 lr ammo for a pistol

What's the best .22 lr ammo for a defensive pistol? No laughs please- the question is for a friend whose wife is wanting to carry and likes the .22lr. I recommended CCI's "Quickshok".

  For a 22LR semiauto, I would say whatever functions 100% reliably. With pistol velocities, I don't know if expansion is something that is really a factor. I remember when CCI came out with the Stinger, several semiauto pistols would not feed it due to the lengthened case and light bullet.

  The most reliable and hardest-hitting out of my Iver Johnson TP22 is the Aguila SE with a 40gr. bullet.
  It's plenty accurate, light recoil, almost no flash out of the short barrel, and I carry 2 extra mags just in case.
  Please let her practice ALOT to make sure she has the mechanics down on whatever she'll be shooting; with this small a caliber, only hits count!

  I shoot Ruger 22 autos alot and have had no problem in any of them with CCI
  Stingers.I have also had goodluck with CCI Mini Mags.The only problem I have had with the Stingers is while small game hunting bunnys and tree rats.Too much meat damage. I own both 9MMs and 45s and have more faith in the little Ruger than them.My second choice would be a revolver.Nobody likes to get shot,even with a 22.

  Thanks for the information. If I know her husband well (fellow gun- nut), he will make sure that she fires lots of rounds, along with him, of course. I'll give them the other brands that y'all have recommended.

  I like to use stardard velocity ammo in my autoloader when I'm shooting at paper. It's easier on the springs, for defensive purposes this probably dosen't help much.
  
  I suggest you have her try one of the surplus 32 autos that are on the market or maybe even a 380 auto. I remember a few years back that there were some Chek 32's going for about 80 dollars dealer price from SOG and others

  I used to shoot a lot of 22lr ammo. Ruger would jam with most ammo except, now I have to think, Remington Yellow Jacket ammo. It had a real high velocity and the slug itself is tapered to allow an easy load into the chamber. [8D]

  CCI Velocitor would be a good choice. I shot some in a small Beretta 21 and found it accurate. Shot placement being so crucial to small caliber defensive use, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. You might use another ammo for main practice as Velocitor is a bit expensive (about $4 for 50 rounds, but otherwise I don't think you can do better.

  I have used the CCI Velociters with good luck in feeding with semi auto guns I have used.

  How can meat be damaged, when there's virtually no meat on the ribs? What would be the point of shooting a small meat critter thru the shoulders, hmm? Or any animal,for that matter. If I am close enough to be certain of such alignment, and was scared of the animal, I'd brain it, not risk having the bullet blown up or deflected by the near side shoulder.
