94 Winchester cartridge guide????

I'll give you a generalized answer. As you have noted, not all cartridge guides are the same. The differences lie in the amount of cut, taper, and bevel on the front (feed) surfaces of the guides. In general, it is best to use the guide made for your particular rifle, as the guides have been shaped for optimum performance with that cartridge. Sometimes you will find that guides for one cartridge will work satisfactorily for another, but this is the exception rather than the rule. In fact, since the '94 has been in production so long, there are often 3 or 4 different guide sets for a particular caliber resulting from not-so-obvious design changes to the receiver and feed mechanism. Before you wind up with a small drawer full of feed guides that don't have any application to what you own, I would advise you to write Numrich when you place your order, and give them the exact serial number of the rifle(s) you are working on, and of course, the caliber.

Four different cartridge guides were used on the 94. Only the .32-40 and .32 Winchester Special used the same guides. The differences was in the "face" on the inside surface where the cartridge is guided up. Type I guide was for the 38-.55, type 2was for the .25-35, the type three was for the .32-40 and .32 special, and type 4 was for the 30-30. All the guides were 2 19/32 inches long, but varied from17/64 inches high and either 13/64 or 3/16 inches thick. Diagrams of the guides show how different they are.

Arthur Pirkle shows them in his book :Winchester Lever Action etc. volume 3. I could try to scan the page or take a photo and send it if you wish, I don't know how clear it will be.
