broken remington nylon 76
I got a remington nylon 76 from one of sellers. the gears that are worked by the lever won't stay engaged, my gunsmith says that the stock is cracked and won't keep the gears tight. he's says that he knows of no glue that will hold that type of plastic together. I got to much stuck in this baby to let it collect dust, anyone have any ideals. thanks[?]

Sadly this is a rather common problem with the Remington Nylon series; the stock itself retains a lot of the internal components and if the stock is cracked or damaged the rifle can't function and you are out of luck. A new stock, if one could be located, would retail in the $75 range and since these are not valuable rifles (most worth under $200) that is not a viable option. You really have nothing to lose by trying to repair the stock yourself and I'd call around to some different industrial adhesive suppliers and ask what type of "glue" they would suggest that could be used on the plastic stock which carried the Dupont tradename of Zytel. Someone out there may have a product that will work. I wish I could provide more assistance to you.

Although I respect Mark's opinion concerning these Nylon rifles, I must differ in the values he stated.....The last couple of 76's in Mohawk brown that SOLD (not listed price, but actually sold)at auction..went for 5-6 hundred bucks... The stocks, if you can find them, bring well over $100 with no cracks, but no where near perfect as far as scratches and dings go... I parted one out a while back, and may still have the stock... Gunlist indicates Remington M77 available in up to 99% condition for no more than $295. Gun Parts Inc. lists replacement stocks for the Nylon series: Part 52 25005 77850 for $63.75 so I would not pay much more than that for a new stock in typical condition. A NIB OEM item would surely bring much more money but finding an example would be a challenge. e-mail me if you want the particulars, but I'd go ahead and try the industrial adhesive route since you really have nothing to loose.
