Removing Shotgun Stock

I'm trying to find out how to remove the buttstock for a Winchester 1200. The nut to that bolts on the stock is way up in there. What kind of tool do I use to get up there?? Thanks,MM[8D]

  Either a long screwdriver or a socket wrench with a

  I use a brand X Chinese 12" blade screwdriver. Use a flashlight to guide the blade into the slot.

  Buffler got it right.
  
  A friend of mine found a Snap-On screwdriver on the side of the road many years ago, and gave it to me. It is the one about 24 inches long, and has been my stock screwdriver ever since.

  Make sure that you get the screwdriver in the screw slot, and not between the stock and the screw head, as you could split the stock when you put tension on the screwdriver. As v35 said,use a flashlight to make sure that the screwdriver is properly seated.

  I use one of two methods, which one depends on the type of tool your going to use. (1) Find a length of tubing which just fits around the head of the screw, and will allow your tool to slide in it to reach the screw. Cut the tube lenghth so it extends out of the stock but allows the tool to reach the head. This acts as a guide to locate the tool and the screw head together. (2-my favorite) If the tool you want to use won't allow this (such as a Socket and extension), then use some type of material wrapped around near the end of the tool to form a "bushing" just slightly smaller than the hole in the stock. That will act as a centering guide to position the tool on the screw. A combination of Hex-shaft screwdriver bits attached to socket-wrench adapter will allow you to come up with ANY length needed. All you need is enough socket extensions for the length needed, with the ADDED advantage of choice of bit-type and size(Flat, Phillips, Torx, ect). Plus you don't have to come up with a screwdriver that is an unusual length that you never use for anything else! You can even make the one part that has the "custom bushing" a permanant tool that is compact enough to even store in the Stock if you want, with some padding to keep it from rattling, and will always be there when you need it again!
