Mauser HSc Collectors I need Help
I have a Mauser HSc pistol and I'm trying to determine which exact model it is. How do I know if it is a Low Grip Screw or a Early Nazi Army. This gun has a the Mauser logo on the left front of slide, then Mauser-Werke A.G. Oberndorh a.N. under this it says Mod. HSc Kal. 7,65mm On the left side on trigger housing next to grip is a Proof mark of some kind with a 655 The serial # is located on the front of grip at the bottom and is 7328xx The clip has the Mauser logo on the bottom of it. On the right side on trigger guard next to the grip is the Eagle proof mark and letter "N" Can anyone help me figure out which exact model I have?

According to my references production of the HSc, Mauser Pistol started in 1940 with serial number 700,00. The Nazi Proof Law of 1939 established the "Eagle N" proof for firearms destined for commercial sale.
Given the above two points, you have a early production HSc with commercial proofs.
The "nazi eagle over WaA 655" is the Waffenamt Stamp for the ordinance inspector working at the Mauser factory. Even though your pistol has the "Eagle N" commercial proof, it was probably distened for military service0 -
I believe you have an early Nazi Army model. Early models had the magazine with the logo on the botton and started at S/N700000 (1941) and ended with S/N951000. 0 -
Your pistol is an example of an early Army issue as the 655 acceptance stamp indicates. Serial numbers began with 700,000 and WWII numbers ran to about 950,000. The very first 1500 to 2000 pistols had their grip screws located near the very bottom as opposed to the usual location which is about 1/3 the distance up from the heel of the grip. Nearly all observed low screw examples had a high polish commercial finish. You have an early example but should be about 20,000 over the low screw version. If you can post a photo of the gun this can be cleared up in about two seconds as the difference in screw locations is obvious. The eagle over N is a standard commercial proof. An additional 655 in that location rather than the eagle would mean that the pistol was not commercial proofed and was strictly military production. These would bring large premiums as they are not often encountered. It sounds like a nice pistol. What is the condition?

Well guys were off to a good start here. This gun is in apporx. 75% cond. with a little bluing wear in the sharp places. Looks like holster wear to me. How do I post pics. I could do this so we can clear this one up.

The easiest way, is give us to the URL of your picture so we can click to open it. Only give us the URL if you have your picture in your ISP provided storage area or at a cyberspace Photo Host. If I could ever learn to use this stupid computer or how to cut and paste I would either be the most helpful or the most dangerous guy on the board! This pistol has the same 655 marking as your and is very close to your serial number. Does your example look like this one? This is NOT a low grip screw model but I would be thrilled to own it!

It is exactly what p0838, rufe-snow, and myself suspected: An early army issue HSc, but not a low grip screw variation. The condition of the photo in the link appears about as good as any I've ever seen and would probably bring $700 to $800...maybe much more at auction. In almost any condition these early issue HSc pistols will bring $200 to $300, but the better the condition the higher the premium.

THIS IS WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT THIS FORM, I JUST PICKED UP A HOLSTER WITH A MAG IN THE POCKET. IT IS STAMPED MAUSER ON THE MAG BUT DID NOT KNOW WHAT MODEL UNTIL I SEEN THE PICTURES POSTED ON THIS QUESTION. THANKS GUYS, NOW I KNOW IT IS A HOLSTER & MAG FOR A HSC MAUSER. TO BAD THE GUN WAS NOT WITH IT! 0
