Williams 5D Economy Peep site ??????
I have a Williams 5dPeep site that was made for a Marlin39A. I just purchased a new Marlin Model 1894 44Mag Cowboy. The rifle is not drilled and tapped for the receiver sight. Can I use this site on this receiver if I have it drilled and tapped. Brownells lists a different part number peep for this gun!
I compared the sight to one on a Model 336 and they look pretty much the same.
Maybe Im being cheap, but I hate to buy another site if I can make this one work.
Lots of guys are using these rifles with these sights for cowboy action silhouette shoots, Im surprised Marlin does not drill and tap the receiver's anymore.

Pa,I bought my Marlin guide gun about 3 months ago and it is drilled and tapped for scope. It may be that just the cowboy guns are not drilled and tapped,not sure just a guess. 0 -
The gun is drilled and tapped on top of the receiver for a scope, but the side of the receiver is not drilled asnd tapped for the receiver sites like they used to be!

I know the 336's were drilled and tapped just below and straddling where the extracter pin extends thru the receiver.

Over on the Marlin Firearms talk forum, I garner that Marlin has discontinued providing mounting holes in the receiver side for sights. Some are still in the pipeline and may be on dealer shelves that have the mounting holes.
Since you will be custom drilling and tapping, should be no problem using the 39A Williams 5D sight on the 1894, if the contour of the sight will lay flat against the receiver and the aparature arm will allow it to line up with the center of the receiver.

Ok thanks for the info. after going to the Marlin Forum, I agree with those guys, putting a Williams receiver site on that gun just ruins the whole thing. Ive decided to go with the Marble Tang instead!

Pa, when I got my 1907 vintage marlin, it had both a tang sight and a full buckhorn. I pulled off the original buckhorn and replaced it with a marbles one that folds down. Give's me two different sight settings that way. Next I'm thinking about scrounging up a old beach sight for the front. Then I'll have four different sight settings.
