You can call BATFE and they will verify it by phone. Sorry, I don't have the number. It should be on their website.

Have the buyer fax, mail/courier or e-mail you a copy. This C&R stuff is gun registration by another name.

Apparently Sunray is not familiar with US gun laws; following his suggestion could get you in trouble.

The best that you can do when selling to a C&R is: 1) check ATF P5300.5 to be sure that state/local law allow him to receive the firearm, and 2) examine the ink-signed photocopy of his C&R license for obvious alterations. That's the best you can do, and all that is required under federal law.

It is not possible to use the ATF EAsy Check on line system for C&R licenses and I honestly doubt that the BATFE would provide any information on C&R holders over the phone. These C&R people are not in the firearms business or involved in commerce, they are collectors, and there are a number of privacy issues involved here; this is the primary reason C&R's are not on the Easy Check. All you need to do is exactly what Neal suggests (make sure the copy is hand signed and not a reproduction signature) and you'll be fine.

Actually BATF does "verify" that a number and name on the license is valid. I have done it. The will not give out a number without the name or visa versa.

Mark, I am always the first to admit when I am wrong so I stand corrected. The phone number for the BATFE National Licensing Center in Atlanta is 404-417-2750.

    Thanks for the input.

I've listed the Radom and have explained in the auction that if calling the ATF starts taking too long (the way government bureaucracies can sometimes be) the buyer will have to find a commercial FFL.

I almost got the 10 millionth listing in the auction too; missed it by 3! Take a look:
