What's your impression of the CZ 550 FS?
Have any of you folks seen the CZ 550 FS with the Mannlicher-style stock? The picture from the CZ-USA website is featured on all the auctions for them on here and I was wondering; does the wood really look that good? Or are they few and far between? Being stuck with a plain-jane stock makes me apprehensive from buying one online, or special ordering it from a local shop. At the same time, I will die before a local shop probably gets one in 6.5x55 for me to look over. Experts, what am I to do?????

I've seen 2 in local store, and one was 6.5x55!! They look real good, a little more bulky than my Mannlicher Schoners, but the wood is good Walnut, not much figgure, good blueing.

I ordered one, 7X57, in Oct. 2002, and it was delivered about March 15, 2003. Frankly I had given up on ever seeing it but it finally arrived. My gun dealer and I definitely have patience. It is really a fine piece of equipment. I would say it is definitely better than the Ruger. It was worth the wait.

I recently got a CZ 550 FS in 30-06. The full length stock does not touch the barrel at all from the front receiver ring all the way to the front metal muzzle piece. The metal piece contacts the barrel at its upper ears. Wood is great, accuracy is 3 shots in around an inch with Remington 180 bronze points at 100 yards. I have not had it long enough to really mess with loads. The more I look at it, I find that the quality of fit and finish and the basic design are really good. I think it is clearly superior to the usual fare in the USA. I plan to do a little trading around so as to add a 243. 0 -
I have one in 9.3X62 Mauser, like it very much, although the one thing CZ doesn't do very well is put a good recoil pad on the thing. On a light carbine in this caliber it's noticeable, on a 6.5 should be no problem.
It has the excellent fully adjustable set trigger, very good fit & finish and pretty much all blued steel & walnut. Accuracy is typical CZ which is to say very good. Very European look, takes some getting used to but I like it.
I have 4 or 5 CZs - some 452's (one a Mannlicher) the rest 550s - the wood is generally very good, dark & well grained but nothing outstanding.0 -
On the CZ long guns I have seen the wood is very good, with some figure in many of the guns. My CZ 712 has some really nice tiger stripe to it. 0 -
I have 3. Love them. Very accurate and handy in a stand because of length. Thay are probably the best value going right now. 0
