What are the correct markings on a Colt Walker?

  This is a serious subject and the money involved in purchasing a Colt Walker is substantial ($50,000 to $300,000+) so a real expert in the field of Colt's should be consulted if you are considering purchasing an authentic (or thought to be authentic) Colt Walker. Experts believe that fewer than 15% of the Walker production run have survived and authentic examples in private hands are known on sight. Most Walkers seen for sale today are fakes...some of them quite old, so be careful!!!
  
  The correct marking for the top of the barrel: Address Sam'l Colt, New York City. Right Side: U.S. 1847. Cylinder: Colt's Patent Model U.S.M.R. The cylinder also contained a roll engraved scene depicting "...as near as one can, the engagement [Col. J.C. Hays] had with the Comanches", Quote by Sam Colt. This actual scene represents a fight which took place in the summer of 1844 in which Col. Hays and 15 of his men fought off 80 Comanche Indians, killing or wounding half of them. This roll scene is often worn to the point of having disappeared from the cylinders of surviving Walkers. There were also various US inspectors marking stamped on the Walkers (except for the small number of civilian model pistols). Once again, procede with caution if you are looking to purchase a Colt Walker.

  Thanks for the information and warning, the gun I am curious about is advertized as repro. I know something about Winchesters but little about Colts, I just do not like knowing so little about a subject I am considering, and I do not have the time to get a good reference, so thanks again.
