    Hi......

The 35 rem has more stoping power, but there both great brush guns, I personly like a 30/30 took a lot of deer with my pre 64 1894 winchester.

The 35 is definitly the better stopper with the 200 gr. bullet, but you have a much better selection of ammo with the 30/30. Either is plenty for deer size critters.

Why not go whole hog and get a .45-70? There's a stopper. Do you plan on carrying a handgun too? I frankly think a large caliber revolver makes more sense if you want to stop cranky critters from biting on short notice. More likely the sidearm will be at your side.

Chris, I would like to ask, where do you intend to do your hiking? If it is in the lower 48, either will be just fine, but a 44mag or similar hand gun would do as well and be easier to access in a hurry. But if you are going to be hiking further to the north, I would not spend my money on either one. What would come to mind at that point is something along the line of the 45-70, 450 marlin, or the 405 win. These are lever guns if that is what you preferr. Just my 2 bits..DD2B

I like the idea of just carrying a sidearm as opposed to a rifle. I have a few 45 Colt revolvers, one is a Bisley Ruger, and the other is a S&W Mountain revolver. I could carry the +P Cor-Bon ammo in either one and have the same or a little more power than the 44 Mag. In the 35 Remington, which is the best load for black bear, the 150 or 200 grain?
    Thanks

Out of a lever-action rifle the 200 gr round nose is the best bet, I belive the 150 gr is a pointed nose style not suited for tube magazines.
