Skeet, Trap, and Sporting
If this has been covered recently, I apologize.
What is the difference in shotguns made for these sports? From what I can find, the main variables are the stock shape and the rib/bead setup. Often, sporting and skeet guns seem to have the same spec's except for the rib size and elevation. For skeet, the rib may be 8x8 and the sporting model, same brand and model, will have 10x8. One number means the rib width and I am guessing the other is elevation. Which is which, or if I am wrong, what is what?
I can't find any info on stock design for sporting vs skeet.
thanks!

I've seen a wide variety of guns at our sporting clays coarse and on our trap range at ZVRC. Everything from over/unders and side by sides, pumps and auto loaders. The thing to remember is that both games are different, I've seen many a good trap shooter eat crow on the sporting clays coarse. One gun will do both but it needs to fit you and you will need a few different choke tubes.
In trap people genrally will use full and modified, Sporting clays you will see people useing improved modified and improved cylinder.
If you ain't got a sense of humor you got no business bein here!0 -
One big difference is the point of aim vs center of pattern. Trap guns shoot high, as your taking the target on the rise. Skeet guns shoot fairly flat, as the targets are taken on the level. Sporting Clay guns shoot low, as most of the targets are dropping when taken.
Choking is also different, trap runs from Mod to Full, Skeet runs from Cyl to Improved Cyl, and SC runs from IC to Full depending on the corse and target presentation (and I've seen pairs stands that begged for Cyl on target A and Full on target
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0
