Hello all, i was considering a leupold "Rimfire" scope (4x compact) for my marlin 35 remington . this scope would be a the perfect size and power for my purpose. my question is..............the fact it is a rimfire scope would it hold up on my centerfire as a standard VX-I or vx-II..ect centerfire scope would? is the only real difffernces the facts that the paralax is shorter and the reticle is a fine duplex? your thoughts? 0 -
The VariX III has more of its lenses that are coated. Light tends to bounce off of a lense, the coating helps the light pass through, instead of bouncing off. The more lenses that a scope has, the harder it is for light to pass through. If you take a 3 X 9 Vari X II and a 3.5 X 10 Vari X III, (same power setting) and look at 'yonder deer around dusk, you should see a differance. 0 -

Quite significant differences. Quick non tech break down is:
VXII vs VXIII
Magnifacation: Limited vs Higher power available
Fully Coated: ALL vs ALL
Multi Coated: NO 1 layer vs YES 4 layers
# of Lenses: 9 vs 10
Lens Quality: Good vs Better
Light TRANSFER: Good Approx 80-82% vs Very Good Over 90%
Them more lenses the BETTER, the SHARPER you see.
True, there can be somewhat less light, but only if everything is equal!!!
Ie., a VXII with 10 lenses will be sharper that with 9.
A VXIII with only 9 lenses will not be as sharp as with 10.
The better coatings, and quality lenses will give brighter picture, and a sharper one.
Optics with better coatings, and lenses will be better like the above examples.
