What Have I Got ?
It's a single shot,22 cal. To open the action, you pull the bolt knob back; the first step cocks it, then as you pull it on back, it releases the bolt, and the top of the reciever hinges open, and as it does, an extractor slides back to remove the cartridge. The top of the reciever is marked with a stylish,script type letter "S"/ Top of barrel marked "Deutsche Werke Werkefurt" , top of reciever marked "Mod I" and a crown over a letter "B", also a fan shaped or starburst mark. Right side of reciever marked "DRP" over "Germany". Seft side of barrel marked "Cal 22 long rifle", Bottem of barrel marked "5.4 mm" and a crown over the letter "B" and the fan shaped mark. The left side of the buttstock has a wooden medalian-like insert, round, with the script letter "S" carved into it like the reciever, the right side of the buttstock has a brass medalion with a hunter and dog scene on it. Rifle is 41 in. overall, with barrel of about 21 in., rounded pistol grip stock, with cut checkering, almost no forarm, and no SN. Any ideas?

Crown over B is showing as a Proof Mark for POWDER circa 1891...Can you post a Photo..........Best...

The Deutsche-Werke commercial arms factory in Erfurt Germany was established after the First World War from what had been the Prussian Government Arsenal.
Their most notable product was the Ortgies Pistols made circa 1920/1930.
Prior to this I wasn't aware they made any .22 rifles and haven't been able to find any information regarding these rifles in any of my references.
Mark Christian is a collector of Ortiges Pistols. He might have some information regarding your rifle?
The Crown over Letter "B", is the standard German Proof for a firearm that had under gone final proof after completion. It was in use until the nazi's changed the proof law in 1939.
Given the above, my guess is that your rifle dates from the 1920's or early 30's, And was made for export, in light of the economic conditions during that period, it probably wasn't viable.0 -
