    Crown over B is showing as a Proof Mark for POWDER circa 1891...Can you post a Photo..........Best...

    The Deutsche-Werke commercial arms factory in Erfurt Germany was established after the First World War from what had been the Prussian Government Arsenal.
    Their most notable product was the Ortgies Pistols made circa 1920/1930.
    Prior to this I wasn't aware they made any .22 rifles and haven't been able to find any information regarding these rifles in any of my references.
    Mark Christian is a collector of Ortiges Pistols. He might have some information regarding your rifle?
    The Crown over Letter "B", is the standard German Proof for a firearm that had under gone final proof after completion. It was in use until the nazi's changed the proof law in 1939.
    Given the above, my guess is that your rifle dates from the 1920's or early 30's, And was made for export, in light of the economic conditions during that period, it probably wasn't viable.
