Lining new Stevens Favorite Barrel

I have a fairly recent reproduction of the Stevens Favorite in excellent plus condition, but has some extractor and minor headspace problems. I'm thinking of lining and chambering to 17 HMR. Is this a reasonable idea or not? I have liners and reamer already from some other projects.
