Does anyone know where I can purchase a decent Makarov? I have seen them on the auction sites but did find a distributor that sold them for $99 and a price break if you bought more than 2. Unfortunatley they sold out and don't expect anymore in the near future. I guess I should have bought one when I had the chance. I even went to the Makarov.com site and the place they referred is out as well.

    Thanks.

Try checking out the Shotgun News, or Gun List, they almost always have what you are looking for.

Go with the Bulgarian Makarov. It is heavier and made of all forged steel. Tried and true it is a pitbull of a pistol.
The pistol I believe you have been looking at is the FEG PA-63, which is not a true Makarov pistol but shoots the 9X18 Makarov cartridge.
The PA-63 in itself is a awesome little pistol however because it is made from forged aluminum and is much lighter it is rather painful to shoot after a few rounds.
I also have to question the long term durability of an aluminum barrel and framed pistol. The Bulgarian Makarovs cost about 139.00 (dealer cost). Hope this helps.

interstatepawnllc is correct about the Bulgarian. I was looking for a cold war pistol, and after all the research, over weeks actually, I decided on that Mak. as well, and did well in my decision. I called the dealer back up the day after I shot it and told her to send me another one, I like it that much. Now I have two. Darn good shooting, reliable, repeatable accuracy with different brands, same point of impact, and parts are available no problem.

interstatepawnllc, I am not trying to start an arguement but on the PA-63 the barrel is not aluminum. The frame is and the barrel does seat into the frame but the barrel is steel. I have one of the PA-63s and have owned several makarovs. The makarovs are made heavier and are more durable being they are all metal but the PA-63 does offer a light weight carry and conceal option, especially for women. My ol lady carries one. As to makarovs SOG should have them as well as J&G. There is also a walther style 380 out there that SOG or Century is selling now in the $125 range that looks good. Haven't shot one yet but will soon as I get the order in and back. I do not know of any true aluminum barreled guns but feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Have you check with J&G Sales, Prescott AZ. They dodn't send me their advertisement in the mail any more, but from time to time they sell plenty of makarov & PA63. They have a web site if you want to do a search. Good luck.

JJ, you are correct sir, it is not aluminum. Must be a lightweight alloy comprised partly of ferrous metals, my magnet test was positive. My apologies.
