Colt Pistol - Value?
I have a Colt Combat Commander in .38 Super, Brushed, Satin Stainless finish. Serial # is 70SC41XXX. Overall, the weapon is 98+%. Can anyone advise the approximate age and value of this piece?
Thank you all in advance.

That Serial Number was made in 1976. The Blue Book of Gun Values, says a 98% gun is worth $725.00. This is a "guide" and is influenced up or down by your area, and other market flunctuations. There is no indication of any guns being made in Stainless Steel, but, there is a gun labeled as "Scarce" which was a "Satin Nickel Finish." Are you sure yours isn't one of these?

Perhaps it is the satin nickel finish,,,? The finish is not a real shiny one. I wonder just how scarce that this finish is? Where does that take the value to RancheroPaul? Thanks [:)] 0 -
If indeed it is Satin Nickel, then the value would be up to the Collector or Buyer who might be interested in the gun. It would be based on the "desire" to own the gun. There are no specific "adders" mentioned for such a finish indicated in the Blue Book of Gun Values. This is an "adder" which comes in when the Seller meets the Buyer and depends a great deal on the "depth of the Pockets" of the Buyer. You might want to do a "Search" for the Commander on the Gun Auction sites and see what they may have sold for in the past. This would give you a better idea of today's market.

Dave, the sc in the serial number designates that the finish is satin nickel or it left the factory as satin nickel. I don't know why they are considered scarce. In the 70s Colt made less of the satin than blue Combat Commanders, but not that much less. In the same time period Colt made even fewer of the Commanders. In the area I live (Houston,TX) the satin will bring considerably less that their blue counterpart in the same condition, although the 38 super will add to the value. 0 -
Thank you all for the great information. Your knowledge is very much appreciated.
