I personally like the Kimber. You get the best craftmanship right from the factory. Many of thier standards would cost you alot extra with the other 1911's listed. There's a good site on M1911's with a wealth of info. Good Luck, Brian

You will find everyone will have their favorite brand. No matter what you buy out of what you have listed you will get a good gun. I would shop around and look for the best deal.

You need to make a choice first as to how you will use it: home defense, tactical/carry use, target/bullseye or competition shooting... Then ask yourself how much you'll be shooting it. The more you shoot, the more likely you will want a better gun that has some refinements.

Once you decide what you are going to use it for, rent one or more models to see how you like them. Dropping $500 or more on a gun makes a couple of rentals worth the trials.

There are lots of excellent used 45s available. A clean basic 1911 makes an excellent basis for a gun you can customize as time and money allows.

Previously you mentioned an interest in IDPA, or IPSC type shooting. Do yourself a favor and buy a double stack type gun. This limits you to STI, Caspian, SV, or Para-ordnance. The only affordable one in that bunch, at least for me is the Para. You will be immediately discouraged if you show up for a match with half as many rounds in your mags as everyone else. If you aren't then you will want to buy another new pistol imediately......maybe a single stack isn't such a bad thing.

My border collie is smarter than your honor student.

The Argi .45's probably have the best bang for the buck. Good solid weapons without a lot of show crap hanging off them. A no frill's Real Man pistol.

I Love my Colts and Springfields, but right out of the box neither were as accurate as my Kimbers....no reliability difficuties.
