Beginner Question...

Hello, I'm an absolute beginner with firearms. I was looking for some places to shoot around me, and I've found that many ranges do not allow "center fire" rifles but instead allow "rim fire" rifles only. What is the difference between the two? I want to be able to get a gun that I can shoot locally at a range, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  Welcome.
  Center fire rifle and pistal cartriges have a primer in the center to ignight the powder. Rim fire cartiges do not. Rim Fire was a standard way of loading in the 1800's. Today the .22 or .22mag is the common rim fire cartridge. I hope this helps. [8D]

  Gap has it nailed. Since you are a beginner (and welcome to shooting and the GB board!) might I suggest you look into a shooting course at one of the ranges, and perhaps a couple of basic books to get you started shooting safely and well, and to boost your knowledge level a bit, so you don't feel like a beginner?
