Ruger Service Six barrel length
I picked up a stainless Ruger Service Six right here on GB while back with the 2 3/4" barrel. The thing is a great shooter and more accurate than I really expected it to be with the short tube.
Anyone have an idea how prevalent the short barreled ones are? Mostly you just see the 4" versions for sale. Just curious.

I believe it is "Security" Six. Best, Robert[:)]

It is a "Police Service Six". Says as much on the right side of the frame just forward of the grip. It has the fixed rear sight machined into the topstrap unlike the Security Six which had adjustable sights. I know what I got, just want to know if the 2 3/4" tube is rare or not.

Teamblue: my 1999 Standard Catalog of Firearms says that the Stainless steel version of the Police service six was only made with a 4" barrel , so if you have one with the shorter tube either the book is wrong or you have a rare one
in the blued version the 6" was the rare barrel lenght and will bring a premium0 -
Teamblue; checked in my blue book and it says the same thing model 707 Police Service Six 357 mag,, Disc. in 1988, stainless construction, 4" barrel only, fixed sights, checkered walnut grips
you may want to check with Ruger on this one

Tblue, pop the grips off and see if it has a number stamped on the right side of the frame. Also check the serial number's prefix. Could be you got one of the "Mailman guns" that was specially made for the USPS Postal Inspectors.
If you know it all; you must have been listening.WEAR EAR PROTECTION!0 -
