130gr bullet for WhiteTails

Hi All ,
Just picked up a Ruger 77 " Ultra Lite " in 308 win .
What do the experts think of the 130gr. Hornady spire point for use on Pa.'s White Tail Deer ?
Shots will most likely be in the 45 to 100 yd range .
Would a 150gr bullet be a better choice ? This is the first 308win i'v ever owned so I know nothing first hand on it's performance other than what I read .

  In short, more than adequate. I've taken many whitetails dead in their tracks with 115-120 grain bullets out of my 25-06.

  Hornaday makes great bullets ,, I use their 139 spire point in my 7mm-08 and their 154 gr in my 280 , never have loss a deer yet ,, the 130 should do fine in your 308

  Speer makes a 130 gr HP ,their number 2005 I believe, that kills deer as good as anything you can load. It expands violently and does a number on one you have to see to believe.I use it regurlarly and load it for several customers.
  Shoot them in the neck or ribcage so as not to lose a lot of meat. One shot in the ribs has everything inside shredded,heart,lungs, etc. is hamburger . I get excellent accuracy with them also.

  A 130 gr would be sufficient. That is what I have used for years in my 270 on mule deer and elk. It will make one shot kills if you place the bullet.

  I would prefer a 75 grain Hornady HP from my 257 Roberts Improved for Wyoming deer and atelope. That is my 1 1/2 cents. GW.

  375, I used the hornady 308 130 gr in my Win 100 .308 for a couple of Mulleys here in Wyo. Range was usually bout 150 yds, and they were always bedded down. At the shot, they never move, just drop their head. I take 'em in the heart/lung region, and it goes in and just explodes their heart/lungs. I wouldn't try the bullet on anything but a perfect shot, great chance of just wounding.

  Hunted PA whitetails for 50 yrs. My buddy has always used 125-130 bullets in 30-06. Harvested many whitetails. Most dropped in their tracks. I used 150's. Had a problem with some round nose bullets that were really designed for 30-30 lever actions. These did not give good results. Changed to Nosler 150's and problem was solved. All bullets hand loads.

  In a .308 I use a Sierra Pro Hunter 150 gr. spitzer. Bullets lighter than 150's in .30 cal. are really not intended to deer size game.

  Factory loadings for the .30-30 come with 130 or 150 grain bullets. They have been doing the job for a long time! The .308 launches bullets much faster than the .30-30 and the Hornadys will do a fine job. Come to think of it, the .240 generally uses 100 grain bullets and they also will do the job nicely.
