Glock 37

I was just reading the Shooting Times Autoloader's Buyer's Guide 2003 and found something interesting. They have a gun listed as a Glock 37. It's got a 4.5 inch barrel and is chambered for .45GLOCK, not .45ACP. It's got a picture and all and you can see .45GLOCK stamped on the frame. What's up with this?

  You can read a little more about it in most of the current (June) gun magazines. Glock has developed a slightly shorter .45 auto round which is not the .45 ACP, but which has allowed them to make a .45 caliber Glock on the same frame size as the original Glock Mod. 17 9mm pistol. The ballistics are claimed to equal or surpass the .45 ACP using lighter weight bullets, but the old 230 gr. loading can not be used as it will make the overall length of the cartridge too long. In none of the write-up I've read to date was the author actually able to get his hands on a pistol and some ammo; but no doubt this will come along soon. I imagine this innovation will be enthusiastically received by the Glock fans, but I doubt if any 1911 owners will be trading in their ACPs for the new cartridge.

  I certainly don't plan to swap my Glock 30 for one. I think that Speer is working with Glock and will produce the ammo. I am reluctant to invest in a pistol that uses an odd cartridge. It may take off as the 40 S&W has or die like the 41 Action Express that I still have.
