I AM WANTING TO BUY A .17HMRF AND WANT TO KNOW WHICH ONE IS THE MOST ACCURATE. AN ARTICAL WAS PUBLISHED IN THE AMERICAN RIFLEMAN OR SHOTGUN SPORTS NOT LONG AGO.[?]

  Savage! They have done the homework on the round and have made there rifles to squeeze every bit of Vol/Eng. out of it. Without sacrificing accy. Go to savages web site to compare!

  Gun Tests compared 4(Anschutz, Ruger Marlin, Savage) .17 HMR rifles and the savage got their best buy. It was the ugliest of all 4 and they said how they tried not to like it but couldn't help it but the accuracy was there with the others, (also said that the one they tested might have been the most accurate with some bedding) and the price is great. Something like $180 compared to the $310 Marlin. All the guns tested got a buy rating, the Savage 93R17 got the best buy and the $600 anschutz was their pick...it's a beautiful gun. Gun Tests is a pretty good magazine if you haven't heard of it...they test all kinds of guns, and since they don't advertise in their magazine everything is pretty unbiased...check it out.   Seems like Savage gets the thumbs up but for what it worth, I bought a Marlin 17VS and for the price I think it is a great value. It has more accuracy potential than I do. I never owned a rifle (rim-fire)that performed any better. Of couse the Nikon scope helps alot. Maybe I should get one of those Savages and see for myself!

  I own both!!! 17VS and a Savage 93/17 HB! The Savage is new. Haven't owned it for a week yet but the 11-15th shots down the barrel did .605 using the Hornady ammo!! It's 2/2 on groundhogs so far and will undergo further testing soon! As far as the Marlin goes, it's gong to be hard to beat!!! Best group at 100 has been .449 and a bunch in the .5 range....200 yards .783 is the best with aggregates averaging under 1 inch and confirmed witnessed groundhog kills at 202, 202, 206!!!! Whichever one you get it will be superior to any 22Maimum you'll get!!! GHD
