remington 1100 vs 11-87
What is the difference between the 11-87 and 1100 shotguns? Is there a functional difference or is it a configuration?

I am far from an expert, but some of the 1187/1100 difference I know are: 1187 has a 3 in. or 3.5 in. chamber (some sporting and trap models are 2.75 only) vs 2.75 in. for an 1100 (there is an 1100 mag that has 3 in chamber), the 1100 has a more weight forward and heavier feel to me and seem to be preferred by trap shooters over the 1187. I am sure there are mechanical and manufacturing differences as well, maybe others on the forum will know. 0 -
The 11-87 has a redesigned gas system that allows it to shoot 2 3/4" field loads up to 3" magnum, turkey, whatever, in the 3" chambered gun. There are sporting clay models (ect.) that only have 2 3/4" chambers. The 1100 is a little more job specific, for example, a 1100 magnum (3") will not cycle dove loads. I have both models, and the 11-87 is more versitile, but I still like a 2 3/4 1100 better for a field gun. 0 -
THE 1100 IS CONTROLED BY THE GAS PORTS IN THE BARREL. 2&3/4 INCH SHELLS HAVE TWO HOLES. THE 3 INCH MODEL HAS ONLY ONE GAS PORT. THE 1187 IS OPERATED BY A SELF-REG GAS PISTON. NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING THE SAME GUN NUMBER 1 COMPLAIT WITH THE 1187 IS THE WEIGHT.
