Why does a 22 Hornet cost more?
I've been looking for an inexpensive single shot 22 Hornet and found that a single shot 223 or 30-06 costs less. Are the 22 Hornets in high demand or more costly to make? I wouldn't be shooting a 22 hornet a lot so I figured a used would be the way to go.

Other way around. There's more demand for '06's and .223's so more are made hence bringing the price down. Have a look at the NEF's made by Marlin now. 0 -
Not a lot of people shoot .22 Hornet. Everything including will cost more.

I was in the same boat with the 218B! I found it cheaper to reload for a 100 rounds then buy a box of factory ammo (and that includes buying the dies)! You may want to look into that aspect. I STILL love shooting my 218B!!! ...and making ammo for it. My 2 cents, Good Luck! ...Mark

No idea why it's more but don't let it discourage you. the hornet is a great little cartridge. I rechamber mine to the K-hornet. You can get a contender carbine battel in the cal pertty reasonable. I use a lightened one tahyt I octagoned and nickle plated as a survival gun and another to hunt pigs in N. FL. Hav eshot a number of deer as well with them. 0 -

howdy, the h&r 1871,inc, rifles formerly know as new england firearms company, are real nice shooters. i had a 22hornet, and round after round in the hot east texas summers, shot real straight. good little rifles. sunray is correct, you ought to give one a look. that's my penny and a half.[:D]
