Century CETME or G3 ???
I was looking to get a CETME to fool around with, but I see that the G3's are just a few bucks more. I know that both are Century receivers. Is it worth it???[?]

Most of the "G3" clones I've seen are some 150-200 bucks more than the Cetme. That's more than a "few bucks" to me. Maybe the location you are looking at has the Cetme price jacked up. Wholesale on the Cetme is around $290, on the HK clone around $450.00. The G3 clones are noticably lighter, some folks like the sights better. Personally, I think the Cetme clones are one heck of a good value right now.

The CETME is a hit or miss chance, my first CETME was junk and I sent it back to century,and the one I got back was 100% better, I would spend the little extra on one of the stainless steel receivers, from what I have heard these are among the best CETME's going,good luck... 0 -
I have a CETME and for $260(4 clips) in .308 you cannot beat it. Mine is very accurrate at 100 yds (open sights) for an assualt rifle (approx. 2-3 inch groups). It's shoots better than my SKS, AK47&74 or M90...and it was the cheapest of them all.
P.S.- It DOESN'T measure up to any AR type. Keep in mind to whom and where these guns are issued. [8]

Agree with all of the above. I have a non-stainless CETME and must have gotten lucky as it has been a solid shooter straight out of the UPS box.
It has much less felt recoil than any other .308 semi-auto I've fired and, if it has the wood furniture, the stock is less punishing to the cheekbone. Synthetic stocks make me feel like I've been in fist fight after a while.
One thing about interchangability of the G3 magazines which are plentiful and cheap. I had to file about 1/8 inch off the magazine well of my CETME (15 minutes with a draw file, go slow so you keep the lines of the well straight) to get the G3 mags to seat and lock. It was easier to take a little metal off the well rather than alter all the magazines. No problems after that using G3 magazines.
A tremendous bargain at ~$300.

I purchased a CETME a few weeks back and have taken it to the range twice since. put about 200 rounds total through it. Only problems I've had have been because some of the magazines didn't work right. It could have just been that I didn't clean them...but I have to check them out.
If you are looking to spend close to $500 for a Century G3...there is one put out by a firm called JLD enterprises ( www.jldenter.com ). They make a G3 clone. The receiver, barrel, trunion, and furniture are all made in the US with the other parts being mostly portuguese surplus. It is supposed to be a very accurate shooter and very reliable. SOG has them for $770.
If you do get a CETME...don't alter anything at first. Take the gun down completely and clean it up and lube up the bolt carrier. Test shoot it and try out your mags to see if they fit. I have 6 20 round mags and out of the 6, 4 of them worked flawlessly. Some have to be slapped in others click with out a problem.

I really enjoy my CETME, its cheap and fun to shoot. Boy does that puppy spit out some ugly brass though.
When I first got it thru AimSurplus, it was so gross, but after I cleaned it up and put about 100rds of junk ammo thru it, and then cleaned it again, it became a fun and reliable shooter. Magazines were so cheap I bought a dozen of them.0 -
I had a Cetme and wasn't too fond of it, but upgraded to a G-3. It was noticeably lighter, shot tighter groups, and the sights were easier to use. For some reason I had a hard time getting used to the Cetme sights. Now I'm very pleased. 0 -
I have had two G3's; the first had the milled aluminum receiver and the second with ss stamped...or whatever you wish to call it. Both were very good shooters. I have a Spanish FR8 which has the CETME style sights. The main reason I bought the G3 was for the turret rear sight vs the CETME's. I liked them better for some reason. I upgraded to a M1A to get away from the extra heft & clumsyness of the G3 since I carry it with me while working.
I now have four or five G3 20 rounders collecting dust.0
