which 45??
Need a 45 ( ok want a 45)
To start with as I look for a 45 I need to make a staetment that I prefer a 45 with out a beaver tail safety so that takes me out of the 1911 arena--and I need a SS so that eliminates another group.
I have read at least 75 pages covering the Baby Eagle, CZ97B and the witness. Now I have to stipulate I own a baby eagle SS matte finish 4.72 in barrel 40 cal ( slide mounted decocker/safety. I also own a TZ 75 9mm--very clean weapon. The 40 is an awsome weapon--accuracy matches a sig. The TZ is awsome for size and mag capacity, (12+1) and accuracy. I like both for the simplicity.
Simplicity is what I like about both manufactures.
Both needed some ramp and port polishing with a dremal tool and jewelers rouge--unrestricted rate of fire and feed issues since the work.
Now I need a 45--OK want a 45--will round out my collection of handguns.
Dilema--CZ97B, Babay Eagle or Witness. Seeing all are nearly identical.
I've read lots--CZ is the predecossor to the witness and baby. However, I have also read much more negative on the CZ. Plastic spring rod, weak spring, magazine release and the problems with the barrel bushing.
Have a proven IMI 40, have a proven witness 9mm. like the CZ but am concerned over the reviews.
Need a good 45 SS mid size---all responses welocomed.

Skyman

Check out S&W. They make some nice DA midsize 45's.

check out Para ordnance , like the one below , has every thing you're looking for plus its a 12 +1 , if you don't like a double stack mag , then look at their CCW 7, its the same gun with a single stack mag holds 7 rounds
both of these has their LDA ( light double action) type triggers systems , if you haven't shot one of these , try them before you dismiss them because they are great

I like the Para LDA--unfortuantely in Komunist Ca I can't have the 12 rnd mags. The other issue is the beaver tail safety. I just can't seem to get used to them them. I will satop in and give it another look though.

The CZ75B has a steel guide rod,and is one of the best 9MM's on the market.More Military's around the world carry a CZ as their side arm than any other gun.As for a good 1911A1,I like my Springfield's I have the (TRP)Tactical Response Pistol and the 19911A1 Loaded. After you finally get them broke in their great guns. But if you do go with the Springfield you need to buy a pair of gloves.Your going to need to rack the slide about 300 times and then shoot it about 300 times.I gave a friend this advice, and of course he didnt take it after racking the slide so much his hands were to sore to shoot the gun for a week.Good Luck!
Best!!

Rugster--I know the CZ 9mm is a good gun but what about the 97B--45?? 0 -
Skyman- I have a 97B and think it's a great pistol! My hands are average/small and I find it to be a long reach to the trigger when the hammer is down; but since you can carry it "cocked and locked" that isn't an eliminating problem, because when cocked the trigger is positioned farther to the rear. As for accuracy and reliability it lives up to the CZ name. It is a fullsized, heavy pistol, and I can't imagine it being carried concealed easily. Felt recoil is less than a 1911. Mine came with walnut grips; a nice touch in this plastic world. You can get an EAA Witness .45 ACP for less money, and in my book it's just as good. This one comes with rubber grips, and is a little less muzzle heavy than the CZ as it does not have the full length dust cover. As far as I know, though, neither pistol is available in stainless. I am just a little confused in reading about your adversion to beavertails, as many 1911s come without that feature (unless we are confusing what the term "beavertail" means). For example, the Kahr/Auto Ordnance 1911-A1 pistol is a close replica of the G.I. issue pistol of W.W. II, and while the grip safety's hand guard extension is longer than that of the original 1911 (a real hand biter) it is not commonly thought of as a beavertail. 0 -
It's the grip safety that I have problems with. I think I need to revisit that issue because the para lda really has most the features I want--4 in barrel yet concealable, SS. SAme as the Babay Eagle but with fewer negative reviews. Going too hit the store today to habdle them both again. would be nice to be able to shoot both prior to purchase.

My favorite .45ACP for carry is the Detonics Combat series. Available in blue and Stainless.
it's a 1911 design that has compacted, about palm sized and the large bore knockdown.
Company went out of business, (actually in and out a couple times) likely to maintain value very well. Both mine feed RN and semi-w/c 100% straight from the box.
Check em out0 -
Look at the Sig P-220. It is my favorite. [8D]
