Double barrel muzzel loader

What is this? what more imfo.do you need? A friend has an old double barrel muzzel loader. There is no manufacturer or serial no or proof marks that I can see.The side plates are engraved with a dog flushing a bird (pheasent?). The trigger guard is engraved with a fox.The fox bird and dog appear to be stamped??? There is also scroll engraved on trigger guard, side plates,hammers etc.I believe they are damascus barrels approx. 30"long. I didn't measure them.They appear to be about 12 guage??? There is well worn checkering on stock grip and fore. Any help as to identity,age, value would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all in advance for your knowledge.

  Its really quite difficult to say what you have, by the discription You tendered...It could Possibly be a Belguim Made Piece from the Mid 1840/1860's or an English Made Gun from the same time period....Most likely its English as it has Pheasants and Foxes with Hound or Bird Dog...Typical of the British...but copied by the Belguim Makers thru out the Era...Best way to tell is have an expert look at it and Judge the Engraving Workmanship...Under the Barrels at the Breechend, there should be Birmingham Proofs...if its English, or ELG in an Oval if its Belguim....Value Wise will depend upon the Maker's or Quality of Workmanship or combination of all the above.....Under NO Circunstance should this Old Gun be Fired...!The Wood is Old and Brittle and the Metal being Damascus and showing lots of Use is, or could be like a Hand Grenade.....and you and any bystanders could be injured if it decided to come apart if shot....I see these Old Muzzle Loaders in the condition You discribe, sell for $250.00 to $400.00.....My advice is Hang it above the Mantle Piece or on the Wall and enjoy it.......Best...

  It sounds like you are discribing my gun. I have a Clabourgh made in England 1872-1894. Mine is 12x12 rabbitear so yours is probably earier thqn that if this is what you have.Wade
