Which AR 15 to buy.
My dept is giving us the option to buy our own rifles tocarry on duty. The advantage is they will run us through a qualification course and provide all the ammo used in training. We can buy any brand with a 16 or 20 inch barrel. Any suggestions?

Go for the BUSHMASTER! And the 20" If you will be the first one in the door, then get the 16" Best to let SWAT do it..... And you give them cover with the 20" [:D]

Armalite, Bushmaster or Colt...you really can't go wrong with any of the three.
I really like the 16" barrel. It makes a nice compact rifle. JMHO

Since you are an LEO and are using this as a duty weapon, I assume this will be a letter head purchase. In this case I can see no reason not to go for the Colt. You have two good choices here: The AR6721 which is the 16" flat top w/carry handle and heavy barrel or the LE6920 which is the M4 variant. Both have retractable stocks and bayonet lugs and will be marked restricted to LEO use. Kiesler's Wholesale has these available at $830 or $853 for the M4. The stepped down barrel on the M4 looks very nice but adds nothing to the shooting ability of the rifle. If you don't care about mounting an M203 grenade launcher and don't like the over sized M4 handgaurds just go with the standard rifle. Bushmaster also makes fine restricted LEO rifles and I can recommend them as a second choice. I am not familiar enough with other makes of restricted rifles to comment.
