Stevens Savage 77H 12 ga Serial #?

Where can I find the serial number on this shotgun? My FFL holder couldn't find it and was wondering if we had to take it apart?

  If it ever had a serial number, it would be visible on the outside of the receiver. Remember that shotguns and rimfire rifles made prior to 1968 were not required to be serialized.
