1911A1 basic GI style, who makes a good one?

Id like to buy a quality (spelled reliable) 1911A1, one which looks just like a WWII era GI .45. Auto-ordnance makes one, and since they are now owned by Kahr ive heard the qaulity is good, any thought? Also, Colt has one now, but it retails for 1200 dollars, more than i would like to spend. Can anyone tell me how i can get a totally reliable 1911 with the GI look, or where to get one??

  A dealer priced a Colt for me at $850 but they will not be out till June. I just asked him what they would go for. Whether this will be the right price,do not know,could change according to demand.

  try kimber or springfield both make near copies of the gi issue 1911

  I was not aware Kimber made a GI type 1911, do you know the model number for it?

  they make one with a parkerized finish that was the one i was refering to

  i believe the model is "custom" or "custom II"

  Thanks. I just checked out the Kimber you were referring to, and its nice, but im trying to keep as close to the GI look as possible (even squinty little sights), however, the springfield looks pretty nice to me, so i may look around for one of them.
  
  Anyone else have a suggestion?

  As far as getting a quality model, I would say Springfield.

  cwinn-that price was quoted by a gun dealer this week when I bought a gun for my daughter. Whether this price will be correct when he gets it is another story but he has treated me right with other gun buys in the past.

  I just bought a nice ww2 Remington on GB for 500.00 a VERY nice shooter! Check this auction site and enter wwii for a search.

  Get a Colt.Stay,no run away from Springfield because you want reliability.If you get a Springfield and it isn't fine right out of the box it will never get fixed unless you learn how to do repairs yourself.There are many Colt 1991 on this site at reasonable prices.CW
