How does the cleaning rod come out?

  Try the old standby" lefty is loosey" and see if it comes out after 4-5 turns.

  I can un-screw it from the stock, but it looks like only half of the cleaning rod when it's out of the stock.

  Not to worry---the cleaning rods on Yugo 48s and German 98Ks really ARE that short! Mayhaps a bit over a foot long. They were designed, I guess, to be worked from both the breech end and the muzzle end.
