I believe your shotgun was made by Stevens, it was their Model 520. Being it has the name "Western Field" on it, means that Stevens made it for Monkey Ward. Since John Browning designed it, and Stevens went out of business in 1917, your shotgun is probably at least 85 years old.

Just dug up some new information. The 520 was continued in production after Savage took over Stevens (circa 1920). In fact it was made as late as the early 1930's. i.e. your shotgun might be only 70 years old, instead of 85.

I have one of these humpbacks.. These are often listed as
Westernfield (one word). These were made in Chicago for
Montgomery Ward, on the Browning patent. The highest bid
I have seen on Gunbroker was 110.00. A nice wallhanger..

I had one of the 520's, the safety is right in front of the trigger. If you didn't push the safety all the way forward, and then pulled the trigger, I would hear a faint click but the gun wouldn't fire. I couldn't reset the safety or open the gun. When I pushed forward on the safety with alot of force, the gun fired. Be careful where you point it if this should happen to you.

    Thanks, Grizztribefans@sssnet.com
