What is H Pieper Double Barrel Worth
12 guage side by side
exposed hammers
silver receiver with scroll work
tiger striped stock
fine Damascus barrel
Made in Belgium
serial number 108244
95% bluing
no rust or wood damage
A friend asked me to find out what it's worth. He needs to know in order to properly insure it as a family eirloom. He said it's been handed down in his family for years. Beautiful gun. Anyone got any ball park figures as he is going to take a rider out on his policy to cover it.

An unanswerable question...
Piepher made some nice guns, but the majority were clunkers... Utility guns made for the trade. That's a real problem for those with one of the nicer guns.
Then there's the damascus problem. No matter how fine the tubes, it pretty much renders the gun a wallpiece. I know... There are folks who shoot damascus, but they know what they're doing and they know the gun is safe. Do you?
Insurance is a joke. Your gun isn't all that valuable and the extra premiums will soon add up to more than the value of the gun. I say this because these pieces seldom fetch more than a couple hundred dollars. Perhaps a bit more if especially nice, but certainly not enough to worry much about.
