Question about Glock - still thinks one in chamber
I got a used Glock 19 about 2 months ago. Brought it to the range 3x, never had any problems with it until this last time. Only thing I did different was use winchester 9mm target rounds inmstead of some hollow point target rounds I used the last 2x.
The problem I experienced about 4 times (out of using a box of 100 rounds) was when I had emptied the clip, the gun still thought one was in the chamber, so when I pull the trigger, nothing happens. I had thought it was a jam but no, there was no bullet in the chamber.
The chamber should have been left open on the last round but the gun thought there was another round. ANy1 know why this could be happening?

How old is the gun? I'm not a gunsmith, but it could be a problem with the magazine follower in the area that comes up to engage the slide lock after the last round. Or possibly the slide lock itself. It only happened when you were firing the Winchester white box loads?

Yea it was only happening with the winchester ammo. Not sure of age because I got it used.

I'm going to have to go look at my Glock, then maybe I can come up with a better answer.

i'm no means an espert on glocks but it could be the target loads are not developing enough pressure to move the slide far enough rearward to engage the slide lock. it could be the mag spring/ follower as well but that sounds unlikly to me since it is only doing it on the light loads 0 -
i sometimes get the same problem with my 22 lr. semi auto rifle. mabe i can help. are you pushing on the clip a little when you hold it? if so try holding it a diffrent way. is you finger catching the slide? if so adjust you fingers so they dont. is the ammo you used hi or low velocity? try useing hi velocity ammo. is the gun CLEAN? wash it at least ever other time you shoot it.

The Magazine should hold the slide open after the last shot.Their is a good possibility you have a bad Mag.

I tend to think it is an ammo problem. I have never had good luck with the Winchester White Box target loads. In my 4006, the extractor never gets a good grip. In my old PPK/s, the slide wouldn't lock open, but this was a problem with all brands of ammo in that interarms crap.
I have had better luck for the range with american eagle target loads. A little hotter, and a little more consistent. I believe it is made by Federal.0 -
If the slide release lever isn't installed correctly (maybe you changed out???) it won't hold the slide open. I have changed it on both my glocks and after the first time I did it on my first gun, i put the spring in wrong and it didnt work right. took it out and did it again and the gun hasn't failed me since.
All I use in my glocks is the 100 round value packs of winchester.

I agree with buckdeer. It is a common problem with weak ammunition for the slide not to be propelled far enough to the rear to allow the slide lock to engage. Glocks are set up for service ammunition and may not lock open with less powerful ammunition. A weak magazine spring could also be a part of the cause. 0 -
I shoot Winchester white box out of my Glock 19s alot,and never suffered any trouble.Did you get this malfunction with one or more mags?Sounds like a weak mag spring or a really dirt mag,does it feel gritty when you load the mag?Were the inner part of the slide stop lever touches the mag follower,does it look bent?If it malfunctions with only one mag,that is the trouble.If it malfuctions with more than one mag look at thr slide stop lever.CW

I'm with buckdeer and judgecolt. Clean it and lube it up good on the slide to frame mating surfaces and see if it will lock back with white box at another range session. 0 -
I dont think it is the ammo. I have shot alot of that winchester white box ammo through my glock and never had a problem. You might try oiling you slide catch some. 0 -

If it is a mechanical problem, or a dirty gun condition, the slide would fail to lock on an empty mag when you cycled the action. 0 -
All the above can produce your problem. One thing overlooked is, has the pistol been modified? In example, the Guide rod with a stiffer spring rate greater than 17Lbs.? But I do agree on the Magazine follower, try a different magazine and see if you can replicate your problem.

Sounds like a magazine issue to me. Did it malfunction with more than one mag? If the spring in the mag is week or improperly installed the slide will fail to lock up after the final round is fired.
