Fitting a 1911 beavertail
I am working on a Colt Sistema and was going to replace the beavertail. I ordered one from Brownells but got a series 80. Can a series 80 beavertail fit on a series 70 pistol? Is there any difference between the 2? Thanks in advance for the help.

Hard to answer without knowing which part, made by whom, you ordered. If you have a "drop-in" part and it will fit one it should fit the other; but many of these parts that are not drop-in require modification of the frame's grip safety tang. Several jigs for accomplishing the alteration are available (also from Brownell's), among them Wilson's and Ed Brown's verisions. To be certain, why not call Brownell's help line and tell them specifically what you've got,and what you intend to put it on. 0 -
Assuming you have a Sistema Colt Model of 1927 as produced by the Argentines.
There may not be such a thing as a 'drop-in' grip safety. All of these pistols we've seen have a slightly longer and pointier frame tang than usual, so some modifications may be necessary. Most of the better aftermarket grip safeties use a .250" radius off the thumb safety hole and there is no reason why one of these could not be fitted to your pistol.

Calling Brownell's would be a good frist step. Also ask them if there is a beaver tail grip safety that would not require modifaction to the frame. I know that Colt had one that was a drop in. 0 -
Take a look at those made by King's Gun Works, Glendale, CA (available through Brownells). They install in most models without modification (which is nice if you ever want to change back) and some folks (I'm one) prefer their shape to the upswept design. 0
