Is a shotgun marked "P. BERETTA" a "real Beretta" ... or is it a gun of lower (or higher) quality ? The gun I have is a 12ga O/U with a model number of "s56e / patent". I can't find any similar guns for sale on this site. Nor, can I find anything else that looks like a Model Number. I need info for my insurance agent. Any help re identification and value ranges appreciated. The gun appears to be unfired. Thanks in advance.

there are no inferior Berettas. Pietro Beretta is the companys patriarch. I can't tell you of it's value, but anything that has Beretta on it, is good stuff in my experience.

why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

It's an S56E, older manufacture. Yes, its a real Beretta, just from the late 1960's-early 1970's. Should bring around $700.

Yes all p. Beretta are "real Berettas." When the manufacture of all berettas was moved to the US, some items have had the p. dropped from the name. Most of the O/U still have the P.
