Stevens made external-hammer boxlock doubles all the way back to 1877. Open the action and look on the frame flats and the underside of the barrels for additional numbers.

What was missed and what was asked is value...

Stevens is known for a quality utility product. As far as a damascus tubed scattergun, I'm sure it's a fine gun. But it's not collectible and the construction confines it to wallhanger status for most of us.

The only bright side I see is that some folks are into period western action and your little Stevens fits that bill almost perfectly. I hear that some of these reinactors will pay well for such pieces, but I don't have any details.

The bottom line is that a shotgun collector won't be very interested in your gun. (Read that as you'd be lucky to get an offer over $100.00 in my opinion.) The other guys, should you be lucky enough to find one... Let's just say more than $100.00. Perhaps several times that if it's the right person.

    Good Luck,

    Nord
