I know your not allowed to buy them in Kal but thought you could shoot them if you already own them???

Restivo.. Welcome to the forum,,, your right and Gap1916 is wrong.
In Cal you can still possess and use "High-cap" mags all you want, you just cant buy any more of them, and they cannot be transfered from person to person. They are available to law enforcement here.
They can be used in both pre and post ban AR's, as well as mini 14's, M-1 carbines, M1A's and other centerfire rifles that are still ok to buy in Cal.
I was at a recent gun show and overheard a guy talking to a vendor saying he was told that citizens could not possess more than 3 hi-cap mags while out shooting.
I could not resist it and had to stop a tell him that was a bunch of BULL.0
