Nowlin Pistols
Anyone have any experience with Nowlin 1911 pistols? I am thinking about buying one in 9mm.

No experience with his pistols, bought some of his parts from Brownells. Extractor, Ti plated, EDM barrel, etc. Weren't happy with them. 0 -

What was wrong with the Nowlin parts? I shot a Nowlin pistol the other day and it was a real shooter. I asked their General Manager at Nowlin why their pistols were several hundred dollars less than Ed Brown and Wilson pistols. He told me that Nowlin advertising is not nearly as extensive as Wilson, Baer or Ed Brown, so their pistol prices are less expensive because they don't have nearly the overhead as the competition.
I have a Baer and Wilson .45's and both are exceptional pistols. If I can get a pistol with the same quality only $500-$600 cheaper in price but not quality, that's money I can spend on reloading components to put rounds down range.
Wilson doesn't build a 1911 in 9mm. Ed Brown just jacked his prices up almost $200 over last year. So Nowlin pistols are looking better and better. But if they are not quality pistols, I'll spend a few hundred bucks more for a Brown or Baer if I have to. Thanks for your reply. Stan

The Ti plated .45 barrel had rifleing cut by either edm or cm methods. At this late date I don't remember which it was?
For whatever reason, this type of rifleing wouldn't stabilize loads that used unjacketed bullets worth a damm! The only loads that shot accurately were fmj hardball loads.
I payed over $200 for the barrel, it was supposed to be "Drop In", "minor fitting only required", and "state of the art", with the edm/cm rifleing. It took me two days to fit the damm barrel! Once I got it set up, the worthless piece of s**t, wouldn't shoot my H & G 68 reloads.
Nowlin's .38 Super extractor that I got from Brownells, was also flawed, even after I radiused and tensioned it, it wasn't reliable. The hook wasn't long enough. It was the same length as a .45 hook.
