Cutting a Shotgun Barrel
Can some one tell he how much choke I will lose by cutting a mod.
choke barrel 13/4 to 2 inches shorter. It is a Remington 1100
vented rib barrel that is pitted at the very end. I plan on using a chop saw for the cut any suggestions about a blade for the project. I will be using the gun for rabbit & Bird hunting.

I have a Mossberg 500A 12 ga. shotgun that I would like to cut the barrel off. It has a 28" VR barrel with screw in chokes. Would I be doing anything that is not safe by cutting this down to around 19" 0 -
You won't have any choke left. IE: Cylinder bore
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
You can alway's have a gunsmith thread the end and put screw in choke's 0 -
Best bet is buy a replacement barrel and sell the used one to somebody who wants to make a riot gun out of it.

I'd just have it tapped for a set of Briley choke tubes once you've cut it to the desired length like boltaction here said. It may be a little costly but it's worth having the diversity.

Don't use a 'chop saw'. Have it done by somebody who knows what they're doing. Only because of the rib. Not all of them are secured to the barrel for their full length. If a vent ribbed barrel is cut incorrectly, you'll bugger it up big time. 0 -
We use a metal-cutting band saw to shorten 1100 barrels, then clean it up with a piloted facing cutter. The rib is dressed to match, about 1/16" shy of the muzzle.
Having the choke-tubes installed is the way to go.
