Remington Trigger

I recently read that Timney has a trigger fix for the 870 shotguns. Has anyone had any experience with this? Is it worth the money? Can it be used on the 7400/7600 rifles?

    What trigger would you recommend for a Remington 700 BDL? (Early) Not modified for the bolt lock by Remington yet. May be later. Used mostly for target shooting. Want something in the neighborhood of 2 to 2 1/2 lbs that would still be safe to carry. Am I asking for too much? Thanks [:)]

    I have posted this on here several times and we need a FAQ section.
    Go to SniperCountry.com and look in their info area and it shows how to adjust a Rem trigger to a safe 2 #s.

    I took my 700 BDL SS DM to a good 'smith and he cleaned up the trigger travel and pull and now it is crisp and light - all for $25. I later too my 700 muzzleloader to have it done too. I spent $200 for a Volquartsen trigger for my 10/22 and both of these triggers are as nice (to me) as the much more expensive one. The only drawback is that they aren't adjustable, but they got them both right where I want them so I wouldn't adjust them anyway.
    If your gun is a stainless model, maybe I could buy the parts that you take off if you put on the locking safety. I hate those stupid things and will remove it if I buy a new one.

    I took my Remington 700 in to local gunsmith and he cleanned up the trigger pull to 3.5LB.s, he said he wouldn't take it any lower for safety issues. He did a "hell" of a job, well worth the money ...beat buying a new "after the market" trigger assembly. My 2 cents ...Mark

    if your going to buy a aftermarket trigger for the 700 buy a jewell trigger they are without a doubt the very best on the market i have several

    Yes it will work. ALL 700 remington triggers are adjustable or replacable with jewells, timneys, or rifle basix triggers. Jewell being the undisputed champ, but with an undisputed champ of a price tag as well. If you don't shoot long range or targets for competition, the gunsmith can work your trigger down to a very nice weight. I have several that he has done for me that break at 1-1.5lbs, and very crisp.

    There are several aftermarket triggers that are fine on the 700, By all means though, get rid of the Remington trigger. It's the most dangerous trigger on a modern rifle I know of. Hundreds of accidental discharges and a number of injuries & deaths from this poorly designed trigger. A slew of pending (somewhat justified)lawsuits. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2001/07/17/eveningnews/main301947.shtmla friend was an expert adviser on this report & designed a good trigger for the rifle at their request. The trigger was presented to remington and they considered it till their lawyers told them to replace it would be an admission of the former one being faulty. Part of the reason Dupont got rid of Rem. I never liked the rifle design either, but that's mostly personal preference:o).

    One of the fellas on this site directed me there and the instructions are extremely easy to follow. My only advice if you are going to adjust the trigger yourself is to get a good trigger pull guage so you can see what your actually doing. I have a Lyman digital pull guage that does an outstanding job.

    Thanks to all! The trigger is adjusted, (by feel), should get a trigger pull gauge. I will look at the Lyman. And it is safe! I checked it every which way. And I learned a lot too. Maybe I do need to send the rifle off for the Remington Bolt Lock Safety Program. Next winter when the range is to cold to do any shooting, that is. Thanks again. [:D]

    If you send it to Remington with the trigger adjusted, they will send it back with a new trigger and charge you for it. Also, you will have to change firing pins to accomodate the new safety feature, which will be an additional $60. It is not worth the money or time, and the safety is ugly.

    The best thing you can do when adjusting the trigger, is to make sure that once it has been fired, that the trigger has enough spring left in it to pull it foreward. Just push back on it, as if to fire it, and be sure it "snaps" back to a forward position as your finger slides off of it. If this does not happen, you have set yourself up for an accident.

    Best of luck with what I consider the best out-of-box rifle on the market.
