How old is that powder? I can't find any refereence to it anywhere. Even on Winchester's site. 4.5 grains of Bullseye is a nice target load with a 230 bullet.

I use Unique in my 1917 Colt 45 ACP . I load 6.5 gr with a 230 gr bullet. I assume that if your pistol is a 45 acp, it is made to shoot smokeless powder. Actually, 4.2 gr of 231 with a 230 gr bullet is a pretty light load. I would not expect any problems with such a load. I load 5.3 gr of 231 with a 230 gr lead bullet for my 45 auto pistols.

Duplicate factory (and Military) load is 6.0 gr. Unique with a 230 gr. roundnose bullet.

A nice plinking and paper-punching load is 3.5 gr. Bullseye with a 200 gr. Semi-wadcutter. Mild, but accurate at 25 yards, this is a nice load for older guns.

My pet load is 5.0 -5.3Gr. Win 231 with a 200Gr Cast lead .45 Long Colt bullet. Bullets are cheaper and surface areas are about the same as a 200Gr SWC. Diameter is also the same at .452".

I've had "0" malfunctions with this load once I found a good seating depth for all of my .45ACP pistols.
