kel tec reliability
HELLO OUT THERE... I AM WANTING TO HEAR FROM ANYONE WHO HAS HAD PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH KEL TEC PISTOLS. A CLOSE FRIEND OF MINE IS CONSIDERING A .32 FOR HIS POCKET PAL. I DON'T HAVE A KEL TEC, THO I HAVE A FEW OTHER .32'S.
AS WELL, IF SOMEONE HAS THE 9MM KEL TEC, PLEASE RESPOND AS TO THE CONCEALABILITY AND LOADED WEIGHT OF THE 9MM.

I've owned a Keltec P 11 for approximately 7 years (11,000 range stainless slide). Put at least 1000 rounds through it during that time frame. It only failed on me once (slide stop sheared off). Keltec sent me another one gratis. Put the new one in and it worked fine. In my opinion the P 11 is the best, most cost effective pistol you could want for CCW use. It does the job for me.
The P 32 I bought new last year (75,000 range), was a horse of a different color. Below are the comments I made on a similar thread last week, concerning the P 32.
"I've had one for almost a year now. It was OK for the first 150 rounds, then I started having problems with it. Had to remove the slide stop tab to get it working properly. Then the firing pin broke. I had to replace that.
The one saving grace is the folks at KelTec are wonderful to deal with! Just call them up and they will send you replacement parts at no charge!
If you have no aptitude for kitchen table gunsmithing or like working on guns, don't get the KelTec P 32.
PS Got almost 900 rounds through my P 32, it's working fine now."0 -

I'm a little shakey on this. I planned on buying the p-32 this weekend. I don't know if that is a wise choice now. I want a very small pocket piece. This seemed like a great choice. Cal isn't a big consideration. How are you doing with your p-32 now?

Like I said, mine has quite a few rounds through it now, and it's working fine.
Only negative thing I can say about it now, is that Kelgren should have designed the magazine release better (raised surface around it?). It's to sensitive when you're using the hi-cap magazines. Mine has a tendency to release the mags, during rapid fire.0 -
I have both p-11 and p-32. Both very low serial number. Both very good guns. The only problem I had with the P-11 is I inadvertantly fired 3 rounds of Corbon in it and the extractor broke. The p-32 have fired 800-900 rounds no problems, no malfunctions. Both of these weapons are designed as light weight concelled carry weapons, therefore probably giving up some of their durability. I suggest that you try to limit your practice with these weapon and replace the recoil springs every year or so. 0 -
I've had my P11 for quite some time now,(serial range0xxx)and other than replacing the original plastic recoil spring guide rod with a genuine KelTec metal one; have had no other trouble in over 30,000 rounds (conservative estimate).
I don't consider myself James Bond, so I'll stick with the 9mm version.

I bought a P-11 around six years ago. I've fired approximately 1000 rounds through it with nary a problem. As far as weight and concealability, when the P-11 was first introduced, Kel-Tec advertised it as the world's "smallest full-size 9mm". I've found mine to be extremely light weight and concealable, and have carried it many times in a jacket pocket or in my waistband. 0 -

When I first got it it jammed or stove piped on every other round, then the slide release broke off, it was all over the place even when shot from a bench....I had bought it used...ever one i know heard about the $50 bucks i had wasted on that piece of plastic $hit so I call Kel-Tec and sent it on to them
about a week later i got it back no charges for any of the work they did to it took it and a case of 9mm to the range with three friends over the course of the day we fired 1000 rounds throught it between us and got very sore fingers from loading mags it NEVER missed a beat in the entire 1000 rounds and at 25 feet from a standing postion was shooting a 8 inch group average for all day take in to effect doing double taps with it and seeing who could empty the mag the fastest that is a pretty good group siz for 1000 rounds
been looking into buying one of there new 223 and a 9mm carbine from them
The 223 waiting to see if they have any bugs that need to be worked out
This is great company to deal with they back up there product and I have looked at P32 but don't have one YET
I carried the P-11 everyday for a year and most days forgot it was even there it is so light

WHile I can't speak to the Kel Tec, I have been carrying for 2 years now a Beretta Tomcat .32, which has been very reliable; I don't recall any problems with it firing, feeding, and ejecting. Very easy to carry. The problem that I have repeatedly is that the safety plunger is forever becoming dislodged, resulting in a "sloppy" safety. It is a HUGE pain in the rear to put it back together. 0 -

or any problem it must be broken.0 -
This is not meant as a negative comment, but it's interested me how many folks seem to feel comfortable carrying a .32 as CCW. I've also been interested in your comments on the .9 Keltech, as I've been considering one for carry. Are they quick to field strip? 0
