Air guns?
I would like to purchase a quality air gun for use on varmints. Any advise relating to quality/power etc. of current models would be appreciated. Thanks for any help.

you migth try a search for beeman airguns.
they were the leading distributor of air guns 15 years ago,I'm not sure anymore.
you didn't mention what kind of varments.
I've killed rats with my crossman 130 pistol and crows with my 140 rifle but that was decades ago.
last I heared the hot ticket is a 177 spring piston.

When I was growing up I had a Sheridan Silver Streak that did a great job on squirrels and possums. It shoots a .20 caliber pellet as opposed to the .17. Here is a link to cabelas website.

My own choice is the RWS 48 or 52 series. The 48 uses the identical Model 52 action but has a plain hardwood stock and no frills. These are full sized rifles and are very powerful and accurate and are available in either .177 or .22 caliber. The .177 is extremely accurate but lacks the punch of the .22, which is intended for hunting. This rifle will kill a house cat sized animal with a well placed shot. Both of these rifles are top quality but are expensive. The Beeman line also has an excellent reputation for power and accuracy, but I am not that fond of there products over all "look".

The Beeman HW97 is a great shooting air gun for the money. mines in .20 cal, and will take cat/small dog sized critters (up to about 20 pounds) at 35-45 yards. also have an air arms tx200 in .177 that will do squirrels at 35-40 yards nicely. rws also makes excellent air rifles that will do as good as or better. 0 -
Have used a Beeman FWB 124 in the .177 for many years. With pointed pellets, a serious killer within the proper range. However, haven't killed a crow, yet. They are tough! A fun gun in a virgin "dog" town. GW. 0 -
have an R W S model 36 and two 48/52 they are very good 1000 to 1100 f p s .i found out that the pointed pellets did not work well with the magnum air rifles i use heavy flat,dome are hollow points.

These other people are correct that RWS and Beeman are a couple of the best there are. The price tag will make you think you just bought
a nice centerfire rifle though. If you can't bring yourself to spend $250-$450 on an air rifle you may want to check out the Gamo air rifles as they are just as powerful and very near the quality of the big boys but for under $150.0 -
But for your need of "quality" I can suggest a Chinese .177 side lever air gun like I bought several years ago. Somewhat crude military like quality but accurate and durable. I have shot it maybe 1500 times without change of trigger pull. Spring type air guns are hard on triggers. Still shoot about an inch deep in soft pine. Cost was $40 to 50 as I recall. If you are new to air guns it might be a good investment as a familiarity or learning experience. 0 -

How much you wanna spend?
Either go buy a $50-100 10 pump crossman or the like (I have a 2100 its fine for cats and dogs and such that get in the yard, bluejays that sh*t on your car etc.)
If you want sumping better do what Mark Christian said, I've seriously considered those models myself in .22.
